What were you thinking? Sat W’shop, 10 June, 2-5pm

There are times when we are with another and they are in need of help. Perhaps they are troubled or perhaps they are ill in some way. How can we help our brother in these situations. How can we be present in a way that is not supporting the dream yet supports our brother. What do I need do, or perhaps more correctly, not do, in these situations. What are I really trying to do when I attempt to help another?
What’s stopping you from helping (healing)?

Who are you? Sat W’shop. Sat., May 13, 2-5PM

Just who do you think you are? How have you determined this “self” which you define and defend so vigorously? How is this “self” serving you? Is it all you think you wanted?
Of course not, yet we still cling to it tenaciously. Holding it in place by our judgments, anger, righteous indignation and oh so many other forms of attack.
We are being called to see how all these attempts at “self-preservation” are actually attempts as Self denial. We are also being asked to take responsibility for these barriers and be willing to let them go. Finally we are being asked to allow our True Self, a chance to be expressed. Let us know our Holiness by allowing it to be reflected in the world. Read the rest of this entry »

2017-3 What do I want to learn? Sat W’shop, April 8, 2-5pm

How stubborn we are. How steadfast we hold on to our beliefs and judgments. We see the world as the evidence of all that is wrong and wicked and thus fail to see what we can truly learn. We are convinced by our arguments, closed to alternatives and thus condemned to suffer their consequences. All the time believing we have no choice. What utter rubbish! Time to wake up and reclaim that we we so carelessly gave away. Surely it is time to learn my Father’s lessons and forego my meagre substitutes. Read the rest of this entry »

What am I telling myself? Sat W’shop, Mar 11, 2-5pm

The course is presented as a course. Something being taught from someone to someone. At first we think we are being taught by another. Then we think we are teaching others. Finally we realize we teach ourselves. Then we can finally decide, what we want to teach.

All the world’s a stage – A metaphor

Metaphors abound in the Course and can be quite helpful in helping us see, by analogy with something we are familiar with, something else we do yet yet seem to understand. They also serve in bringing abstract ideas, which in truth can only ever be abstract, closer to what we already understand. Taking Shakespeare’s famous line as a starting point let us explore another metaphor. Please remember though that this is only a metaphor and while it can serve to help us make the mental jumps offered through our practice of the Course it still remains a metaphor, an analogy to support an idea, not a description of truth.

“All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players:
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts…”
(from As You Like It, 2/7)

Happy New Year!

Just a note to say happy New Year to everyone.

We trust you have been, and will continue to be, of good cheer and good spirit.

Recently we had occasion to read from the Last section of Chapter 15 of the Text, “Christmas as the End of Sacrifice”. It contains an oft’ quoted line:

“Make this year different by making it all the same” [T-15.XI.10:11]

You see although the central teaching of the Course is that the world does not exist [W-p1.132.6:2-3], at no time does it ask us to deny our experience here. Indeed, it is only through our consistent examination of that experience with the help of our Inner Teacher (Holy Spirit or Jesus) that we learn to differentiate the real from the false. As such the Holy Spirit can use anything and everything of “this” world to help us in this task.

The beginning of a new year with its almost inescapable review of what was, thoughts of what may be and the making or avoiding of promises for change, is well and truly a fertile place for the belief in separation to work its magic in innumerable ways. Jesus is asking us to do something different this year.

The beginning of the paragraph containing the quote with which this missive began goes like this:

“This is the time in which a new year will soon be born from the time of Christ. I have perfect faith in you to do all that you would accomplish. Nothing will be lacking, and you will make complete and not destroy. Say, then, to your brother:
I give you to the Holy Spirit as part of myself.
I know that you will be released, unless I want to use you to imprison myself.
In the name of my freedom I choose your release, because I recognize that we will be released together.” [T-15.XI.9:1-7]

And this is what he is asking us to do, every day, every hour and every minute when we find ourselves once more seemingly immersed in the “reality” that comes from believing we are indeed separated from our Source.

So let’s make this year different by making it the same. Let’s answer every question, every doubt, every twinge of fear or annoyance, anxiety or pain, every moment of suffering under our thoughts of others not doing the right thing by us, doing the right thing by us and making us feel the lesser, doing nothing when they just should have. Everything.

Let us commit to taking all of these times and more, and laying them at the feet of the one who knows us truly and for all time. It is time we gave up the foolish notion that we “know” and turn to one who does.

Now this would be different!

Happy New Year!

How can the Course help?

(A possible answer to someone asking about the Course.)

First and foremost you need to understand that the course is a spiritual path/process that is concerned with the inner you.
This inner you is not something that you are normally aware of.
All the difficulties you seem to face or experience are a consequence of not being aware of this inner you. Read the rest of this entry »
