Give Up the Belief in Opposites

The Course is asking us to give up the belief in opposites and exchange it for the idea of contrast. God simply is; Truth and all its attributes are. Because there is God, there is no devil. Because there is Love there is no fear. Because there is Life there is no death. Because there is Reality there is no illusion. Because there is joy there is no pain. Because God created Mind awake there is only the appearance of mind asleep.
This is the truth of our condition and Being. Yet while it seems abstract and not the truth of our experience the Holy Spirit teaches by contrast. In any instant that we are not wholly peaceful and free of judgement we are asked to see it for what it is and allow the Holy Spirit’s forgiveness to shine it away. What is not wholly peaceful is a lie and an obstruction to the awareness of the truth of our Being.
This is the only way we can use judgement or discrimination in a way that is entirely benign. Anything more than that and we will use our own past learning to hurt ourselves and our brother. We will be making images that necessarily must war with each other.
The radical nature of the idea of moving beyond the belief in opposites needs to be fully acknowledged because it is such a deeply entrenched part of what we appear to be and how “life” as we know it appears to be structured. But contemplate this idea we must, because within its acceptance lies the peace that passes understanding.
